
Novus-Classica Camerata
It all begins with an idea.
The Novus-classica Camerata was founded in 2020, when covid-19 paralyzed the whole world, a group of young musicians in Shanghai decided to try their best to bring some vitality to the music industry during the epidemic.
Novus-classica Camerata is devoted to pursue the sound that characterized by the chamber music style of ensemble playing and independent musical personalities. Novus-classica Camerata’s repertoire ranging from the Baroque period to contemporary works, showing the Novus-classica Camerata’s agility in crossing musical boundaries and pioneering spirits.

La Bohème
On April 16, 2025, the fifth concert of the Second Z+ Festival was held at Shanghai Symphony Hall. Yukuang Jin and Novus-Classica Camerata performed Mendelssohn Concerto in D minor for Violin, Piano and Strings in the first half. This concerto, which Mendelssohn composed at the age of 14, was performed with the youthful ensemble, showcasing the Classical period's "Sturm und Drang" style.

Z+ Festival 5:Transfigured Night

Mengla Huang & Friends Winter Concert
On January 8, 2025, Mengla Huang & Friends Winter Concert was held at Shanghai Symphony Hall. Jing Zhao, Yukuang Jin, and Novus-Classica Camerata participated as special guests. The concert featured works such as Bernstein's Serenade, Rossini's "Tears" Theme and Variations (adapted for cello and chamber orchestra), Respighi's Largo and Variations, and Brahms' Double Concerto for violin and cello.

Ludwig II: The King is back!
From December 12 to 15, 2024, the stage concert "Ludwig II: The King is back!" was performed six times at Shanghai Culture Square. This work combined large-scale epic symphonic music with modern musical theater forms, with Novus-Classica Camerata performing the music in a live symphony orchestra setting. The ensemble collaborated excellently with the original German cast.

2024 SHCMF Contemporary Chamber Music Concert [3] Works by Chinese Composers
On November 22, 2024 SHCMF Contemporary Chamber Music Concert [3] Works by Chinese Composers took place in the Conservatory of Music Orchestra Rehearsal Hall. Yukuang Jin led Novus-Classica Camerata in performing new works by 8 composers. The ensemble is highly regarded by contemporary composers as a symbol of the next generation of performers and their voices are seen as the voice of contemporary music.

The 6th International Conducting Masterclass of Shanghai Conservatory of Music
From October 29 to November 2, 2024, the Sixth Shanghai Conservatory of Music International Conducting Master Class was successfully conducted by the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Novus Classica Camerata, along with 10 participants, participated in the course and performances under the guidance of Markus Stenz. They performed works such as Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune (chamber version), Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No.1 Op. 35 and Mahler's Symphony No.4 (chamber version).

MISA Open Air 2024 & Concert Tour
On July 11, 2024, Yukuang Jin, in collaboration with Novus Classica Camerata and pianist Serena Wang, performed works by Shostakovich, Piazzolla, and Kapustin at the Summer Music Festival's outdoor concert in Shanghai. This performance showcased the young ensemble's musical attitude and exploratory spirit. The group then embarked on a tour of five cities (Chongqing, Changsha, Shenyang, Changshu, and Quzhou) from July 17 to July 25, where they received enthusiastic responses.

Weekly Radio Concert
The concert featured representative operatic excerpts from Italian opera composers, showcasing the emotional expressions of various opera genres such as comic opera and verismo opera, as well as the different opera types during the classical and romantic periods. The concert highlighted the strong artistic and dramatic effects of the ensemble performances.

The World Classic Opera Excerpts Concert in Shanghai Conservatory of Music South Taihu Internatinal Music Week,2024
On April 11, 2024, Novus-Classica Camerata and the Shanghai Youth Opera Company performed 13 excerpts for the audience. Renowned vocalists Huang Ying and Li Xiuying also attended the concert. It delivered a mesmerizing operatic experience to the citizens of Huzhou.

Finale Concert of Beijing Music Festival (BMF) 2023
On October 15, 2023, Novus-Classica Camerata was invited to perform at the closing ceremony of the famous Beijing International Music Festival. In collaboration with the Mahler Foundation, and with the support of Marina Mahler and Martin Campbell-White, presented Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, which received enthusiastic response in Beijing.

Touring with Ning Feng
Novus-Classica Camerata was invited to perform at one of China's most famous contemporary music festivals, the Shanghai Contemporary Music Festival, in both 2022 and 2023.
This year’s festival featured renowned composers Magnus Lindberg and Qigang Chen as resident composers. Magnus Lindberg attended the concert and highly praised Yukuang Jin and the Novus-Classica Camerata.

Shanghai Contemporary Music Fesitival 2022/2023
In September 2023, Novus-Classica Camerata toured China with the world-renowned violinist and first prize winner of the Paganini Violin Competition, Ning Feng.
They performed Vivaldi and Piazzolla's "The Four Seasons" and gave the Chinese premiere of a work by Schnittke.

With Award Winning Violinist Ruifeng Lin
July 7.22-23, 2023, Novus-Classica Camerata and the famous violinist Ruifeng Lin performed Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 4 and Tchaikovsky's "Souvenir de Florence" at the Church Music Hall, a landmark building in Shanghai.

Subscription Concert in Shanghai Concert Hall
Novus-Classica Camerata joined the Shanghai Music Hall‘s 2023/24 season on April 30, 2023, inviting the former principal timpanist of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia as the conductor/timpanist to perform a special concert of early music by composers such as Telemann, Vitali and Purcell.

Hangzhou International Music Festival
Novus-Classica Camerata was invited to tour the Hangzhou Music Festival in April 2023. They brought a vibrant performance of european early music interpreted by young chinese musicians to the Hangzhou audience.
During the interpretation of Vitali's Chaconne, arranged by Respighi, they used a real organ - which received positive feedback from the Hangzhou media.

MISA 2022
On July 22, 2022, Novus-Classica Camerata was invited back at Music in the Summer Air Festival (MISA), Shanghai for the second time, performing works of Alfred Schnittke, Ottorino Respighi and Max Richter.
In this concert Jin Yukuang showed up as the harpsichord/arranger/conductor of the concert.

Ganlan Art Award 2021
February 2022 Jin Yukuang with his Novus-classica Camerata was awarded by Ganlan Art Award as the "New Artist of the Year".
Other musicians on this year’s list are Lang Lang, He Hui, Bruce Liu and so on.

October 2021, Novus-classica Camerata performed four concerts in Beijing Music Festival (BMF).
The highlight of the program was the Chinese Premiere of Stravinsky’s latest work: Four Preludes and Fugues from Bach - "Das Wohltemperierte Klavier".

On July 23, 2021, Novus-Classica Camerata performed a Full-Chinese-Premiere concert with works by Reich, Vasks, Gorecki, Pärt and Glass at Music in the Summer Air Festival (MISA), Shanghai.
The concert finishes with the Chinese Premiere of Philip Glass Piano Concerto No.3.

Yellow Lounge Live
On May 16, 2021, Novus-Classica Camerata performed with Ning Feng (1st prize in the Paganini Competition 2006) and Chen Yibai (2nd prize in the the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2022) at Yellow Lounge (Deutsche Grammophon) sponsored by Universal Music Group, Steinway and Volkswagen.

Debut Concert
At the end of 2020, Jin Yukuang initiated the Novus-classica Camerata, aiming to actively participate in the gradual recovery of the music industry in the post-epidemic era from the perspective of young talents.
The Novus-Classica Camerata, debuted on January 8, 2021 with a program with chamber music works by Stravinsky and Copland.
